As part of the multi-phased rebrand of Downtown Columbia, Maryland, I collaborated with The Howard Hughes Corporation to reposition this overlooked suburban city as the new hub of commerce and innovation in the DC/Baltimore corridor. We began by developing the story for Columbia’s cultural epicenter, The Merriweather District, recalling the vision of Columbia’s original founder James Rouse, a master-planned community developer far ahead of his time.

Consistently rated among the best cities in the nation to live, Columbia’s Merriweather District symbolizes a new wave of place-making that enriches the mind and spirit of its community, and sets a new benchmark for the redevelopment of small cities across the US.
